Why won’t he just do his work? He spends more time complaining about doing it than it takes to just do it. There is no magic pill or method of coaxing your child into quiet obedience. My advice for homeschooling a hardheaded child:
I want to be the kind of homeschool mom who can wedge herself in between Webster’s Dictionary and a selection of Usborne Encyclopedia’s …and I’d just hop down from my shelf to run out and buy pre-sharpened Ticonderogas, arrange field trips, keep the WiFi running, and set out tea for the college recruiters. Anything’s possible….
I don’t believe in ADHD, but I am pretty sure two of my kids have it, by all standards of diagnosis, and all three probably could pick up a few sensory hashtags as well. Recently, I learned the term twice exceptional or 2e. The definition comes closer to identifying my boys than any other. I like the all-encompassing value of the term, but still I hesitate. My son is a whole mess of personality quirks, brilliant and unique. Brilliance that could be missed, if it were prefaced with a cloud of labels buzzing around him like flies. I believe that their unique behaviors are the exhaust of beautiful minds at work.
When we watched the video later, he actually said he should have listened to me and practiced a little before the concert And then when it quit snowing in our kitchen, he said, “We still sounded awesome, huh? And I said: “You don’t have to be perfect to be awesome.”
