This year I’ve decided on an awesome plan for a spring break at home. For these 3 reasons: (plus one more)
- A staycation will keep me distracted from homeschooling nonstop cause I’m a little bit OCD.
- A plan will keep spring break from becoming another week of tech-binging for the kids.
- We get an adventure that doesn’t involve flying this germy time of year.
+And because $$ is tight. Step Away From the Curriculum However, a staycation is a difficult plan for a homeschool mom to wrap her lesson plans around. Especially a mom who likes to get 95% of the way (if not completely) through the curriculum each year. I mean why take a break? We’re not going anywhere exciting. This curriculum isn’t going to learn itself, and if we’re just sitting here…. Most homeschoolers would agree, if we’re going to stay home, we might as well do some schoolwork. Catch up. Get ahead. It’s like when you’re too sick to go out, but not sick enough to stay in bed. Might as well read something, clean something, calculate something, right? People and Petri Dishes Also, if we go out, there are crowds and crowd-induced prices. Yuck. It’s easy to talk my way out a spring break all together. It’s just so people-y out there. But is it fair to my kids to forge on when we clearly need a break just because I’m a certified germaphobe? P.S. Here’s my membership card: Still we need to stop, drop, and roll the planners up and shove them in a drawer for a week, lest math eat what is left of our family bond. See…the time I wanted to quit homeschooling. So, let’s step away from the fractions and copywork. What if we just… Spring Break at Home!? Checkout my 5-day plan of themed food, fun, and camouflaged learning below! Each day is alliteratively titled with an exciting event or activity and a fun food to teach the kids to cook. Or of course, if we’re really taking a break, we can eat out or order in.
Follow it as written or tweak it to fit your family. There is sure to be a day of activities to please everyone! There are suggestions for staying in or away from crowds, or venturing out to some more people-y but exciting activities. Let me know if you plan to play along and how it turns out! Share this with your homeschool and even non-homeschooling friends in need of a plan to soak up that valuable family time.
